SHOBUIKE KOFUN

Historical Site
7th century Kashihara-shi,Gojono-cho

Placed within the burial chamber are two carefully worked stone coffins of unusual shape. The inner surfaces of both sarcophagi are on all sides covered with lacquer-painted cloth. The burial chamber was constructed by juxtaposing natural stones, and was from the first designed to be especially deep in order to accommodate the two coffins set end to end.
